Self-nurturing – Opening the Senses Naturally
MARIAN’S CORNER – COMING TO YOUR SENSES
There is a strong pull towards gratifying the 5 senses. If however, the pleasure you get comes through only a few of the sense portals (taste, touch, smell, hearing and sight) and the pleasure you receive is pleasurable in the short term but detrimental long term, there is a tendency to overindulge. For example, if you get pleasure only through food, you may overeat and usually the wrong things. If a chosen indulgence has created a compulsion or addiction, it is very hard for the body-mind to break this habit. It says, “This is my only pleasure in life. Don’t take that away.” Babalui (the saboteur in your unconscious mind) jumps in and says, “Don’t be deprived. You’re having a hard time right now. Go on a diet tomorrow.” And of course, tomorrow never comes. You continue eating too much chocolate, for example.
My solution? Let’s open up more sensual, healthy pleasure centers in your mind and body. Let’s expand more ways to allow you to feel good! I will show you how with great tasting food (CHI IN THE CHOW), through touch with reflexology (THE POWER OF TOUCH) and using aromatherapy and other natural sources of healthy, sensual self-care (SENSES ALIVE!).

To be sensual, I think, is to respect and rejoice in the force of life, of life itself, and to be present in all that one does, from the effort of loving to the breaking of bread.
James Baldwin, 1924-1987
